Reiki + Crystals = A little extra magic

If you’ve ever held a crystal and thought, “Okay… I don’t know why, but I was definitely supposed to pick this one,” you already understand a little bit of the magic behind working with crystals.

One of my favorite things about Reiki is that it gives us a chance to slow down, get quiet, and reconnect with ourselves. And adding crystals to the mix? Well… I think it just makes the whole experience a little more magical.

What Exactly Is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese energy practice centered on relaxation, intention, and working with what practitioners describe as universal life force energy, either through gentle touch or by holding the hands just above the body. The word Reiki comes from Japanese:

Rei — universal or spiritual

Ki — life-force energy

For me, Reiki is about creating a space, whether for myself or my client, to breathe, quiet the outside world, and tune back into what’s happening within.

You don't need a fancy setup, a perfectly quiet house, or an entire afternoon. Sometimes even a few peaceful minutes can make a big difference. And yes, you can absolutely practice Reiki on yourself! This can be as simple as sitting quietly, placing your hands on your heart center, breathing slowly, and setting an intention.

So why Add Crystals?

This is where things get fun!

Crystals can be wonderful companions during Reiki because they give you something tangible to connect with while setting an intention. Each stone has its own traditional metaphysical associations, but I personally don't believe you have to follow a strict list of rules. Sometimes you simply find yourself drawn to a particular stone—and that can be enough.

Amethyst might call to you when you're craving peace, intuition, or a little spiritual connection.

Rose Quartz can be a beautiful choice when your intention is centered around love, compassion, and being a little gentler with yourself.

Clear Quartz is often associated with clarity, focus, and amplifying intentions.

Black Tourmaline is my favorite for grounding and protective energy.

Citrine is often connected with abundance, confidence, and joyful energy.

And then there are those moments when you walk past your crystal collection and one practically screams, “Pick me! Pick me!”

Listen to it…because that’s the one you need!

Creating Your Own Little Reiki Ritual for yourself

You don't need anything complicated.

Find a comfortable spot. Light a candle if that's your thing. Put on some calming music. Grab a crystal—or two—and settle in. Take a few slow breaths and decide what you'd like to focus on.

Maybe it's peace. Maybe it's releasing something you've been carrying. Maybe you're calling in confidence, abundance, love, or simply a little more balance. Hold your crystal in your hands and set your intention. Then begin your Reiki practice and allow yourself to simply be.

You can hold the crystal, place it on you or nearby, or arrange a few around your space. There really isn't a wrong way to do it.

Using Stones During a Client Session

Stones can be a powerful tool during a session, enhancing relaxation and promoting healing.

When it comes to selecting stones, it's all about tuning into what your client truly needs—both emotionally and physically. The right stones can make a world of difference in their experience.

You might want to consider amethyst for a sense of calmness, rose quartz to invite love, or black tourmaline for a protective energy. Each stone has its own unique vibe that can resonate with your client.

It's always a good idea to give the stones a good cleanse before use. This helps to clear away any lingering energy, ensuring they’re fresh and ready to work their magic. Then, take a moment to charge the stones with intention. Focus on what you hope to achieve during the session—this sets a positive tone for the experience.

During the Session

Consider where to place the stones on the body or around your client to create a healing grid. This thoughtful placement can enhance the overall experience. You can encourage your client to hold a stone during meditation. This can deepen their connection to the energy and help them tap into their feelings.

By integrating stones into your sessions, you can create a more enriching and supportive environment for your clients.

And Here's the Best Part…

You don't have to believe that your crystal is magically going to fix everything.

Think of it as a physical reminder of the intention. When you hold that piece of amethyst, you're reminding yourself to slow down. When you reach for rose quartz, you're reminding yourself to practice compassion. When you hold citrine, you're reminding yourself to make room for possibility.

The crystal becomes part of the ritual—and sometimes, rituals are exactly what help us pause long enough to hear ourselves. Reiki and crystals aren't about doing everything perfectly. It’s about what feels right for you. Explore. Play. Try different stones. Notice what you feel drawn toward.

Your practice can be as simple or as witchy as you want it to be. And sometimes the crystal you need isn't the one you went looking for… It's the one that finds you. ✨

As with other spiritual and wellness practices, Reiki and crystals are complementary practices and aren't intended to diagnose, treat, or cure medical conditions.
